Narrowing your focus to the exact types of jobs you want to have is going to completely transform how you view applying to jobs, how you feel about the process and even how much time you feel you are using efficiently vs wasting.
Narrowing your focus has 2 steps and they are easier than it seems:
STEP 1: THINK OF COMPANIES THAT FIT YOUR VALUES
The first step building on the last two days in the challenge that we did the last few days. I want you to think about companies that really fit your values. Think about companies that fit the workplace culture that you’re looking for, or fit the industry that you want to be in, think of companies who have a mission that you are passionate about.
The idea is that you find companies where you can identify a true and honest interest in what they do. In order to enjoy doing your job, you have to be able to connect to the company through a sincere level of interest. This is not going to make your job perfect every day, but it will be the one thing you can hold onto on challenging days.
STEP 2: FIND THE JOBS THAT FIT YOUR NEEDS
Once you have your list of companies, you’re going to look through their open job postings and you’re going to find jobs that you think you can do and would actually be interested in doing. Because before you even apply to a job, you need to know that if you get to the end of the recruiting process and you are handed an offer, you’re going to be excited about accepting it!
I don’t want you spending any time on jobs that you already know you won’t feel any excitement for!
The reason I ask you to go through the job descriptions is because you actually don’t know what a certain job is called at all of the companies that you’re targeting.
Let me give you a real-life example from my own previous work experience: At one stage in my career, I also thought that the best way to get into a certain company would be to go through a referral. So, I had somebody refer me. She referred me a few different times and I wasn’t hearing anything back. They weren’t calling me back at all.
That is when I started to dig deeper and realized that they actually called the job that I was doing, the job that I was qualified to do, they called it something completely different from every industry standard. They had their own name for this job. And once I applied to the right job, I got a call back within about four days. And within two weeks, I had an offer in my hand!
RECAP: HOW TO SAVE TIME IN YOUR JOB SEARCH
By doing some research upfront, you’re going to save yourself a lot of time and frustration moving forward. You will only be applying to companies that you admire, and to jobs that you would be excited to operate in.
Why is this so important? Well, if you have attended my class, you know that it takes between 23 and 85 hours of personal time investment to get from application to offer. If you’re applying to jobs that you’re not interested in or that you don’t think that you would actually be excited to get, you’re still wasting those hours on that job, and you could be saving those hours and spending them on the job that you’re actually interested in.
Because at the end of the day, this entire process is a numbers game:
-
You should be getting called back
-
You should have recruiters coming to you
-
You should be getting interview offers just based on your application
The higher the number of places you are able to apply to using all these methods, the higher number of places that are going to be calling you back and the higher number of places that are going to be giving you offers. Every step in the process works together to create a cohesive experience and that’s why I want you to really narrow your focus and make sure that you’re being efficient with your time because we all know that none of us has extra hours to spare on jobs that we don’t even want!
This is an incredible bonus that has never before been offered and I am doing it now because I want all of you in your dream jobs before the summer! Schedule your call here.
